Right Action
In next months ‘Flowing Into Stillness’ and April’s ’Emerge, Radiant, Renewed: Spring Cleanse Workshop’ we’ll be including a variety of stress-relieving Breath Kriyas which are similar to pranayama for moving our subtle energy (Prana/ Life force) to help promote our vitality and open to deep levels of presence & relaxation, and also some cleansing kriya techniques for purifying the physical body to awaken a sweet clear mental state.
What is a Kriya you may ask?
In brief, there are different types & meaning of Kriya that show up in the Yoga tradition – most often referred to as the ‘Yoga of Action/ Awareness’, or ‘Right Action’. Kriyas are also ancient Meditation Techniques & Yoga sets that include & combine Posture, Breath, Mantra (sound) Mudra (hand/ gestures), Bandha (energetic locks) and internal focus to achieve a desired energetic effect. There are also Kriyas which are cleansing techniques for the physical body traditionally practised before Meditation & Yoga, to prepare the body, effect subtle energy & bring about mental balance to enhance the experience.
Yoga teaches that we can more easily control the fluctuations of the mind through controlling one’s vital energy/ life force, and according to Eastern medicine, blockages in the flow of our vital energy can cause disease and illness. Being able to control the flow can give you the power to heal and balance us on a physical & mental level – bringing you to a deep state of presence. Kriya, like the breath-based ones and the cleansing techniques we’ll cover in the upcoming workshops, combined with asana and meditation in a consistent practice can be a vehicle for shifting our awareness and experiencing profound transformation; its to take a right action which supports personal development and spiritual evolution.
