Yoga Nidra is translated to Yogic Sleep. In nidra, the mind is not unconscious as it is while sleeping, but it connects us to our subconscious mind which holds our many impressions, experiences, and knowledge, it’s a place that we are not able to reside in during our usual waking state.
Yoga Nidra is very easy, all we must do is listen. The teacher guides in a way that allows us to switch off through our other senses and this is what helps to take us away into that sleep-like state of rest. Unlike hypnosis where the speaker and director would take us away on their chosen journey, in yoga nidra, we are our own director. We can tap into the power of floating through our own expansive mind – a transformative practice that can literally rewire the way we see the world.
At Heather Yoga we love sharing the practice of Yoga Nidra and it is a key element in our Bathing in Stillness workshops. Book here for our next event on Sunday 28th November 11am-12.30pm either in studio or online.
