How Can The Core Support Our Transitions?
Vinyasa Yoga is about flowing through yoga postures to create a sense of ease in the body and mind. However, if we haven’t built strong foundations, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to find that sense of fluidity.
A strong core is essential to our movement both on the yoga mat and in everyday life. The core is the centre of our body and stabilises our trunk while our limbs may be off doing all sorts of things! It really is a fantastic thing that allows us to make both the most simple and wildest shapes we may have dreamed of.
As our core strengthens, we are likely to notice that our body weight begins to feel lighter. This is because our core becomes better able to take a greater load and therefore our other body parts, including the legs, arms and shoulders, no longer need to hold as much weight. This can allow us to flow through transitions with that greater sense of ease, feeling strong and powerful yet light and agile.
Heather is soon to run a Yoga Unwrapped session focusing on Chaturanga Dandasana (Updog Downdog). This posture is a fantastic way to build core strength and once you know how to make this shape work for your unique body, you will only be building more strength each time you practice it!
