Join Oxford-trained Sanskrit and mantra expert Shreya Radhika Lakhani for a one-day experiential journey. You will learn about the language of yoga, including its history and linguistic features, as well as experience healing mantra medicine and the transformative power of Sanskrit sounds. Shreya blends her background in social impact consulting and climate tech to offer a contemporary approach to Sanskrit, providing practical tools for navigating the complexities of modern life.

In this one-day immersion, you will discover what mantra is and how to incorporate it into your daily practice. This workshop offers an opportunity to explore the yoga of sound, chant together, and learn key Vedic mantras. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the profound energetic and health benefits of using mantras, as well as their specific meanings, while uncovering the teachings of Advaita Vedanta philosophy and applying them to your life. You will also examine the social context and historical development of Sanskrit, enhancing your connection to the roots of yoga. Additionally, you will be introduced to the alphabet and its complex grammatical system, equipping you to use Sanskrit words and mantras with accurate pronunciation and greater cultural awareness.

About The Teacher

Shreya Radhika Lakhani

Shreya Radhika Lakhani is a Sanskrit scholar and mantra specialist based between London, Rishikesh, and Mumbai. She has studied Sanskrit and been meditating and immersed in Vedic traditions since the age of six. Shreya holds an MA in Sanskrit from the University of Oxford (Balliol College), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law. She is a classically trained singer and cellist, and has worked across the social impact sector for the past five years.

Shreya believes Sanskrit, mantra, and ancient wisdom have the power to transmute our inner worlds and transform our communities to create harmony in the world. She integrates various disciplines through her devotional practices, facilitating spaces to open our hearts through mantra, sound, and the study of Sanskrit. Shreya’s workshops help improve mental resilience and agility, bringing about stillness and peace of mind, as well as cultivating deeper compassion and awareness. She aims to guide people of all backgrounds to live with more presence, clarity, and love.

Shreya deepened her knowledge at Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth, Kerala, and Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh, the latter of which has been her spiritual home for over 20 years. Her Sanskrit expertise includes Pāninean grammar and linguistics, Advaita Vedanta philosophy, epics, poetry, and many other literary works and thought systems. Shreya also has a breadth of experience across the social impact sector and leadership development. Her work has spanned interfaith dialogue for WASH, women’s education, mental health in the workplace, and social activism for decolonisation, giving her a unique ability to reach and connect with people of all backgrounds, professions, and ages.

Shreya curates bespoke Sanskrit and mantra experiences. As well as teaching clients individually, she conducts group workshops on retreats, yoga teacher training courses, and leadership development programmes.

Information for the day of studying:

Lunch: There will be an hour lunch break at 12:30pm. Dandelion Cafe is open on site if you would like to order food there or bring your own (we operate a plant based only policy so please respect that if you bring consumables with you). There are also plenty of cafes, takeaways and mini supermarkets in the local Saltaire and Shipley area.

Travel: Our Yoga Centre is based on the edge of the beautiful World Heritage site of Saltaire with great transport links via road and train to main cities including Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, York, and other parts of the UK. We are a 5-minute walk from Saltaire train station and Shipley train station which are both on the Skipton to Leeds line – only a 12-minute journey to Leeds city centre for major connections.

What to bring: A notebook and pen. Feel free to bring any meaningful objects or flowers to place on an altar as an offering.
